John Nagy, et al,

While your logic is accurate to the extent it goes, it seems to assume that
"correct" competition aerobatics should be single basic figures linked by
straight lines.

There was a time when ANY straight line in a sequence was cause for a mark down.
Even vertical lines were downgraded, as it was assumed that a roll should begin
upon reaching the vertical and end at exactly the point of the pivot or push-over
or whatever. This makes for a very dynamic and appealing program for both the
pilot and the observer. Our concentration on the individual components makes as
much sense as concentrating on the individual keys of a typewriter rather than
the entire sentences that they can spell.
