Even though this thread is interesting, and a lot of people have made some
fun suggestions for alternate locations, I think that we need to all agree
that a central location should remain the top priority here. There are
many, many active competitors all along the east coast, and there are many,
many active competitors on the west coast. We need to keep these pilots in
mind, and keep the Nationals in the middle of the country.

Grayson County is still a perfect location (geographically), and we could
easily improve our chances of making it a perfect location meteorologically
(is that a word?) by moving the contest to early in the month. The weather
in Grayson County in early September is typically perfect. The weather in
late September is typically bad. Of course there are freak weather
occurrances, but the weather we have had over the last 3 years has not been
a freak occurance. Low clouds, cool temperatures, and cruddy visibility is
what happens when a weak front stalls in North Texas.

I think it would be great to actually consider moving the contest dates to
the 1st full week of September. The first Monday, being a holiday, would
require taking less vacation days (for those people with normal jobs). The
only concern I would have about that is availability of hotel rooms with
lake Texana being a vacation spot. Anyway it is something to consider. At
a very minimum, though, we should seriously consider making the Nationals
the 2nd week of September.

I do wish that I had been able to make it to the Nat.'s this year, but my
absense did prove one thing...that the weather last year really WASN'T MY
FAULT!!!! :-)

Ok, I've talked enough...got an airshow to practice for. The weather right
now in Ponca City is BBEEAAAUUTTIIIFFUUL!!!! Hope y'all are jealous! Fly
safe.
