Since I am the current Judges Certification Chairman, let me tell you
what's going on with the Home Study Course and the way I've been interpreting
the rules...
The 1993 HSC is the same test as the 1994 HSC, and is the same one we used in
1995. There have been no changes or updates in the last several years. As
you all have probably noticed, some of the questions are outdated or so
confusing that the test has lost some of its meaningfulness. I have started
some serious revisions of the Home Study Course, and Jerry Gerdes and I would
like to have it completed for the 1996 season. So, if Jonathan (or anyone
else) has attended a Judges School in 1994 or 1995, the Home Study Course you
were given is the current one we are using (it is electric greenish-yellow in
color and says "1994" on the cover). As for the time limit? I think I agree
with Jerry and the 18 month time frame, per rule # 2.6.1.3, even though that
rule refers to flights assisted rather than the Home Study Course.
I am an advocate of attending judges school each year rather than
waiting for every two years as specified in the currency requirements per
#2.6.3.2. You always hear new questions being asked and learn new
perspectives from experienced as well as novice judges and judges-to-be.
If any of you have input as to questions or topics that should/should
not be covered in the new & improved Home Study Course, please let me know!
The revisions are merely in draft form at the present, and certainly not
completed...
Regarding FDL...Have fun! My husband and I will not be able to attend, but
we will DEFINITELY be at the Nationals...also a fun time...and it is Team
Selection Year!!!
Thanks for all your input and support. Keep the IAC bulletin board
alive!

                                                                    -Rosalind
Jones
