Don't let the terminology hang you up. What we call a slow roll is a rotation around the roll axis, regardless of rate of roll. The rate of roll must be constant, and aircraft altitude must be constant. The ideal would be if the nose did not pitch or yaw at all, but that's not possible with pesky gravity. So, rudder and elevator are used to hold a level flight line through the knife edge and inverted segments. Using a rapid roll rate allows you to transition through these phases with smaller pitch and yaw inputs, and gives the impression that the nose didn't wobble at all.

See the red rule book, chapter 8 for the judging criteria on all the figures, that should help.
