Gus,

Probably the simplest mod for increasing roll rate would be gap seals. I
think most Christen Eagle II's have them. It is a flexible clear plastic sheet
that attaches to the front of the aileron and rear spar on the wing. The purpose
is to keep air from "spilling" through the gap between the wing and aileron.
The plastic material is similar to a heavy duty food storage freezer zip-lok
bag.

I'm not sure the best way to attach the material - probably some wicked
double sided tape. Let me know if you try it - I've got an S-1S as well.

Oh yes, I do know of one more mod: fences. These are triangle-shaped pieces
of sheet metal that attach to the wing at the inboard and outboard end of the
aileron "cutout" to seal the ends of the aileron. lets say the chord length of
the aileron is about 10 inches. Your triangle would be about 10 inches long
and the width of the triangle is the same distance as the total up and down
travel of your aileron trailing edge. This triangle is mounted to the wing in the
small gap between the end of the aileron and the wing (you would actually have
two of them - one on the inbd side and one on the outbd side). I saw this
mod on an S-1S in Greely, CO area. The airplane was for sale at the time so it
may have a new owner now. I believe somebody in the Boulder area was looking at
this plane to purchase.
