There is no way to modify a flat wing to accomodate symmetrical ailerons. The wing from the rear spar back is completely different. The airfoil is totally different so incorporating symmetrical ailerons into the old S-1 airfoil may not work well.
It would take more time to modify the wing than it would to build one from scratch. I considered this on my old wing and after realizing the cost and amount of work involved I decided to buy S-1SS wing plans.
If you ever get the opportunity to compare the S-1SS wing plans and a set of S-1 plans you will realize the huge differences between the two wings
One sugestion would be to modify the wings from the last rib outward. Run the wing tip all the way back as on the S-2C which would allow you to increase the aileron length by one bay. Since the extra aileron is at the tip it would yield a big increase in roll rate. This would not involve any modification to the wing except the tip shape and building new ailerons.

Subject: [Acro] Aileron upgrade on S1S
Group,
Anyone know if you can upgrade a stock S1S to symmetrical ailerons without modifying the primary wing structure? By this I mean, not having to do any wood or aluminum work or recover the actual wing. I would like to bolt on the new ailerons if possible and double my roll rate. Am I dreaming?
If that won't work does anyone have an alternative suggestion for lots more roll rate on the same S1S platform?
