The IAC as an organizing and sanctioning body devotes a fair amount of its resources each year to the issue of world competition. Not just the process by which team members are selected, but also by other means of direct and indirect support. If our elected leadership, employees' or volunteer's time is spent on related issues, or annual IAC dues are used in some capacity to this end, then we all have a vested interest in the process, all 5800 of us. (The actual number of competing pilots to whom this topic is germane I think is closer to 400.) The WAC and AWAC teams represent our highest level of achievement in this country. While I'm not much of a proponent for nationalistic drum banging, I don't see how I can be involved in a sport centered around competition leading up to the international level without caring about how those that will represent me are selected. Of course, if I ever were to aspire someday for a team spot (hah!), the topic would be of paramount interest to me. Regardless, I am very interested in making sure that our leadership takes its cues from and represents the wishes of its constituency.
