Hi Don and All, Ok I'll bite on this one, First off, I think this issue is directly related to the sport as its exists today. A few concepts to ponder when looking at IAC as it relates to a "National Team"...How many pilots in this country (U.S.A.) have aerobatic aircraft, and out of that group how many are dues paying IACers....out of all IACers how many compete on regular basis....and finally out of that competing group how many have the desire, talent and time and money to realistically "make the team". The "National Team" itself, much less the team selection process seems to concern a very small minority of the acro pilots in the U.S. Even among "hardcore" competitors very few appear to have the desire to "make the team". Without wide national support, and national interest (read media interest), which would attract serious sponsorship, it seems, (to this pilot anyway), that we are debating a very limited issue when compared to the assualt facing the average acro pilot who has to contend withever increasing operational costs, limited airspace etc., (not to mention internal IAC debate and conflict about the future fundamental goals of "grass roots aerobatic competition"). For the vast majority of competitors, the issue of being on a national team is a "cool idea", and a good bar room "desire", but in reality beyond the capability of an average competitors financial ability or scheduling criteria. I for one would like to hear from current and past national team members what their observations and input would be on this subject. How would they like to field the team...should it be like the Blue Angels who select their own replacements?...or by a national point system derived from each contest. Both have their strengths and limitations. If you Don, were "King for a day" what would be your edict?
