You might want to consider using a mike on a relatively stiff gooseneck 
attached to the side wall or the seat back.  I installed such a mike in my 
aerobatic glider and the gz don't move it around at all, even flying 
unlimited level stuff.  Of course, I don't have a high background noise 
level to worry about  ;-)  but this does do the job of holding the mike 
where you want it.  It's easy to position the mike so it's close enough but 
not in the way.  Interesting idea on the Panthers.  I'll have to look into 
that.
