I had a similar experience when I first started using the Telex 50-D.  Loud 
pops and static on take off and at times during flight.  I took David B's 
advice and the Mic Muffs completely solved the problem.  I've used both the Bose 
and the Telex and my feeling is that the Telex is a little more quiet than the 
Bose and better for aerobatics.

"overrun" by the high db in a Pitts...especially when using ANC
